About Me.

Prof. Mohamed Kamal Etman, MD, PhD
Fetal Medicine & Perinatal Ultrasound Specialist
I am a Professor of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Fetal Medicine with more than two decades of experience in advanced prenatal diagnosis, ultrasound education, and high-risk pregnancy management. My academic career has been dedicated to improving the standards of perinatal ultrasound through research, mentorship, and international collaboration.
As the Founder and President of the Egyptian Fetal Medicine Foundation (EFMF) and the ISUOG Ambassador for the Middle East & North Africa, I have had the privilege of leading numerous regional and global outreach programs in ultrasound training and fetal medicine capacity building. These initiatives have helped hundreds of physicians and sonographers gain access to modern educational resources and simulation-based scanning techniques.
I am passionate about fostering collaboration between academic institutions and clinical teams to ensure that every ultrasound not only serves the patient but also teaches the next generation of clinicians.
My mission is to connect education, compassion, and innovation in fetal medicine — building stronger bridges between countries, teams, and disciplines to improve maternal and fetal outcomes worldwide.

Expression profile of LncRNA ANRIL, miR-186, miR-181a, and MTMR-3 in patients with preeclampsia

Preeclampsia (PE) is a leading cause of maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality worldwide. Several studies demonstrated the role of lncRNAs and miRNAs in the pathogenesis of preeclampsia; the aim was to detect the expression profiles of serum LncRNA ANRIL, miR-186, miR-181a, and MTMR-3 in patients with preeclampsia.

Post COVID-19 effect of ovarian reserve

Introduction: The SARS-CoV-2 infection's rise in circulating Ang II can change ovarian function, affect how oocytes develop and mature biologically, affect the quality of oocytes produced, and eventually reduce reproductive function.

Uterocervical angle and cervical length as predictors for preterm birth in low-risk women

Background: Cervical length measurement is widely used to estimate the risk of preterm birth. Another potential predictor of preterm birth is the uterocervical angle, and this additional measurement may improve the risk assessment.

30 Oct2023

Role of Uterocervical Angle, Cervical Length, and Cervicovaginal Fetal Fibronectin in the Prediction of Preterm Birth

Cervical length measurement and fetal fibronectin (FFN) are widely used to estimate the risk of preterm birth. Another potential predictor of preterm birth is the uterocervical angle, and this additional measurement may improve the risk assessment. This study aimed to predict the onset of labor in women who present with preterm labor through cervical length, uterocervical angle, and FFN.

COVID-19 disease effect on ovarian reserve in women of reproductive age: an analytical before-and-after COVID-19 study

COVID-19 is a serious pandemic that affected multiple systems in the human body. Its effect on female fertility is not widely evaluated.

15 Jul2023

Cervical length as a predictor for preterm birth in low-risk women

A common method used to calculate the potential risk of preterm birth is CL measurement. The development of markers with enhanced test characteristics is an important challenge because of the high falsely positive rate.

Uterine Niche and Secondary Infertility: Agreement in Diagnosis Using Hysterosalpingography vs. Hydrosonography

To compare the accuracy of hydrosonography and hysterosalpingography in diagnosis of niche and to evaluatethe correlation between niche and sub-infertility.

01 Jul2022

Transvaginal Ultrasound evaluation of the Cesarean scar: relation between a niche and abnormal uterine bleeding

Cesarean section (CS) is a critical lifesaving operation for both mother and child, and its use has increased dramatically over the last decade. Mirroring global trends, CS rates in Egypt have steadily increased, reaching 52% of all deliveries according to the most recent 2014 Egypt Demographic and Health Survey (EDHS) and representing more than a 100% increase in the CS rate since 2005..

COVID-19 Disease Effect on Ovarian Reserve in Women of Reproductive Age: An Analytical Before-and-After COVID-19

Background: COVID-19 caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome corona virus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) affects primarily the respiratory system but also affects other systems including the central nervous immunological, hepatic, and reproductive systems.

EP31. 07: Accuracy of fetal structural anomalies detection by ultrasonography at 14–16 weeks of gestation in Fayoum University Hospital: upper Egypt experience

Evaluation of 2D transabdominal ultrasound scanning at 14–16 weeks in assessment and detection of fetal congenital anomalies in high-risk population group as compared with the mid-trimester ultrasound fetal anatomy scan.

01 Jul2022

TWO DIMENSIONAL ULTRASONOGRAPHY AT 14-16 WEEKS OF GESTATION FOR DETECTION OF FETAL STRUCTURAL ANOMALIES

Congenital anomalies occur in 2-3% of all births. This is an important cause of perinatal morbidity and mortality and account for 20-30% of perinatal death. The antenatal detection of fetal malformation by early ultrasound screening has been shown to reduce perinatal mortality by allowing elective termination of malformed fetuses.

01 May2022

Evaluation of Gestational Sac Diameter, Crown Rump Length, Yolk Sac Diameter and Fetal Heart Rate in Early Detection of Congenital Fetal Malformation

Congenital abnormalities impact 3% to 5% of allpregnancies, and they are the leading cause of newborndeath. The majority are caused by unknown factors, withpregnancy being the sole risk factor. However, in bothaffluent and developing nations, they are responsible forrising newborn fatalities.

01 Nov2020

Measurement of Cerebro-Placental Doppler Ratio and Amniotic Fluid Index as a Predictor of Perinatal Outcome in Prolonged Pregnancy

The terms post-term, prolonged, postdates and post mature are often loosely used interchangeably to signifypregnancies that have exceeded a duration considered to be the upper limit of normal.

Five-Dimensional long bones biometry for estimation of femur length and fetal weight at term compared to two-dimensional ultrasound: a pilot study

This study aimed to evaluate accuracy of five-dimensional long bones (5D LB) compared to two-dimensional ultrasound (2DUS) biometry to predict fetal weight among normal term women.

A study of endometrial perfusion in unexplained infertility

Infertility in itself represents a wide spectrum of disorders explaining the inability to conceive. Series of investigations are required to depict the potential cause of infertility, yet there exist a small percentage (10 -25%) of couples in which no obvious cause is delineated. these groups of patients are classified as ‘unexplained infertility.
